BFRO #27961: Possible wood knock responses heard near Westport

This took place Friday, July 2nd, 2010 near Westport, Ontario. I was checking out sightings on here and came across a class A sighting near Westport. Two friends and myself decided to head there from Ottawa and do some simple experiments to try and detect if sasquatch are in the area. At about midnight [we arrived and] we parked the car off the side of the dirt road and hiked in to the woods about 100 feet. We decided to do some tree knocking to see of we could get a response. We knocked a total of 3 times and each time we got a return knock from a westerly direction across the lake. After the 3rd knock we had a return knocking from the opposite direction to the east. Nether was close range but the knocking was distinct. At one point my friend said he could hear movement in the tree line across the dirt road as well as a low growling noise. I heard the movement but not the growling noise. As we stood there we heard three distinct howls at a distance to the south that did not sound like a dog or coyotes - they did not fluctuate in level and all of us agreed that the sound was not made by a dog or coyote. At this point, about 30 minutes later we decided to leave the area.
